I am a little oldschool as I believe if you cant draw it you shouldn’t paint it. I have never used an overhead projector as this is clearly cheating. I do however sketch designs to scale and often measure up to on large walls. Griding up your design or counting bricks can also be useful to ensure general accuracy when beginning a grand scale mural.
